In our lecture today, Niamh walked us through the civil rights movement in and around Northern Ireland. We learned about what happened in Derry on Ireland's Bloody Sunday in 1972. Fourteen men were gunned down during a peaceful protest by Unionists that were up above them on the wall around the city. Very interesting to hear that our civil rights movement in America is what inspired them to organize peaceful protests. Tomorrow we will have a chance to see the murals that were painted in the bog site where the men were gunned down, and there is even a mural of Martin Luther King, Jr.
In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to go horseback riding right along the beach where we surfed. It was surreal.
